“A versatile and dynamic violist through his extensive performance experience and artistic depth.”

Jason Lan (Sheng-Chieh Jason Lan, 藍聖傑) is a violist of remarkable distinction — the youngest violist in history to present a debut recital at Taiwan National Concert Hall, performing to a sold-out audience. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, he began his musical journey at the age of nine and has since forged an international career spanning Asia, North America, and Europe.

Jason holds a Master of Music from The Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore, where he studied under Manchin Zhang, Principal Violist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He also studied at Tianjin Juilliard School in China with Honggang Li, founding member of the Shanghai Quartet.

He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music, where he studied under Wilhelm Magner. He also served as a Teaching Assistant in Viola, guiding the next generation of string players.

As a soloist, Jason has performed as concerto soloist with the Idyllwild Arts Academy Orchestra and the Austin Civic Orchestra, performing William Walton’s Viola Concerto as part of the Texas Rising Stars program, for which he was awarded 1st Prize at the Rising Star Concerto Competition 2024.

A dedicated chamber musician, Jason has participated in the inaugural class of the International Chamber Festival at Tianjin Juilliard, the Music Academy of the West, and the String Quartet Seminar. He has collaborated with luminaries including Nobuko Imai, Donald McInnes, and Richard O’Neill, and worked alongside members of the Juilliard, Takács, Miró, and Shanghai String Quartets.

Jason is a prize-winner in Taiwan’s national competitions and holds scholarships and fellowships from Idyllwild Arts Academy, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, Tianjin Juilliard, and the University of Texas at Austin. He is currently competing in both the Concours de Genève 2025 and the Hindemith International Viola Competition 2025 in Munich.
